local.iee.org/centres.iee.org

Which is right?

Using both local.iee.org and centres.iee.org is correct. The name was changed back when IEE "Centres" became a thing of the past and Branches were bought into play. You may use either URL, although local.iee.org has more relavence to the current structure of the IEE.

Does this mean I have to update 2 sites?

No! local.iee.org, centres.iee.org, local.iee.org.uk and centres.iee.org.uk are all aliases that point to one website. Use any URL and update only one set of pages!

Receiving Web Hosting Services from the IEE

I'd very much like to join local.iee.org

Contact Members Services for information on how you can get Internet presence for your Branch/YM section on local.iee.org.

I don't know much about writing web pages, or I haven't got time to do it

Contact Members Services for information on how you can get Internet presence for your Branch/YM section on the IEEs Community system.

Our Branch/Committee already has its own URL - what options do I have?

If you already have a URL and are more than happy with your HSP (Hosting Service Provider), then please let us know. We will be able to set up auto forwarding (e.g. http://local.iee.org/london/ which would forward surfers to your own site), or offer you a hosting package - all you pay is the domain name registration and you get all of the services offered by having your pages hosted on local.iee.org.

Please send and Email to the local.iee.org IT Officer explaining the situation.

IEE Email Alias

Why do I need one?

An '@iee.org' Email alias is the best way of being a recognized member of the IEE. Whenever you promote your Branch/YM Sections you can use the '@iee.org' Email alias to say "Yes! I am a member, here's an easy Email address for you to remember!".

What's more, it's a portable Email address. No matter how you pick up your Email, or how often your Email Address changes, you can always publish one clear Email address that will never change.

How does it work?

When you register, you nominate your own personal Email address. Whenever someone sends an Email to your '@iee.org' alias, it'll arrive in your own personal Email Inbox. Please remember though, that if your personal Email address changes, you will have to inform the IEE so your Email gets delivered to the right place!

'@iee.org' or '@iee.org.uk' - I'm confused!

All IEE Email Aliases are '@iee.org' - '@iee.org.uk' is reserved for the IEE staff! Although at the present time, mail sent to your '@iee.org' alias with a '.uk' on the end may get to you, this will not always be the case, so please only publish your Email address as '@iee.org'

How do I make my Email appear from my '@iee.org' alias?

Due to the way anti-spamming software works, this is not always possible. However, you should be able to change the settings of your favorite Email client to send your IEE address in the Reply-To field. This is far better as people will see your IEE address, and you'll never get Email blocked by anti-spam software.
