The Wales South West Network would like to invite you to join us on an interesting visit, offering a fascinating insight into one of Britain’s achievements during the Second World War. In 1991, Bletchley Park, the wartime home of allied code breaking, was saved from destruction by Tony Sale and some colleagues (Tony gave an enthralling lecture to the 140 that attended his visit to Swansea in January) They transformed it into a museum devoted to the recognition and reconstruction of this crucial aspect of world history, which had remained completely secret until the early 1970’s. Seeing one of the Enigma Machines will undoubtedly be a highlight of a busy day out at Bletchley Park, there is much more than machines in a visit to the historic site, you will tour the wartime huts, check out the tales of spies, view an outstanding Churchill collection. Between 1939 and 1945, the most advanced and creative forms of mathematical and technological knowledge were combined to master German communications. British cryptanalyst’s changed the course of the Second war and created the foundation for the modern computer. Features at Bletchley Park will include: The services of an accredited tour guide for the duration of the visit, Tea or coffee and biscuits on arrival and departure and a Sandwich buffet lunch Second Life is a 3-D virtual world entirely created by its Residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by millions of Residents from around the globe. After refreshments and a short introductory talk by your guide, the first part of the tour, which lasts approximately one hour, takes place in the grounds and visitors will discover what went on at each of the key locations, including the famous wooden code breaking huts. The second part of the tour, which continues after lunch, will include a visit to the rebuild of Colossus, the world's first semi-programmable computer, the Churchill Collection (subject to availability) and Block B which you can explore at your leisure. You will also have the opportunity to browse in the shop for that all important memento of your visit before being escorted by your guide back to the Mansion for refreshments before departure.
